Starting with excerpts from Mendelssohn's "Midsummer Night's Dream", followed by a charming Oboe Concerto by Albinoni with Josh Hall as soloist. After the interval, Ben Jarvis will be the soloist in Albinoni's Trumpet Concerto and we finish with Mendelssohn's 4th Symphony, the exciting "Italian Symphony".

Our soloists:

Josh Hall - Oboe

Josh Hall is a freelance oboist based in Liverpool having graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Jonathan Small &Jenny Galloway. He previously studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with George Caird, Jenni Phillips & Richard Weigall. He has worked with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Skipton Camerata, Welsh Chamber Orchestra & Mowbray Orchestra and has participated on schemes with the Hallé Orchestra, whom he performed with, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. During his time in Birmingham he performed as Principal Oboe with the CBSO Youth Orchestra & Academy.

As a soloist, Josh has performed Strauss’s Oboe Concerto with the Wirral Symphony Orchestra and Finzi’s Interlude for Oboe & Strings as part of the Fondazione Cantiere in Montepuliciano with the RNCM String Orchestra.

During his studies Josh has participated in a number of master classes with international artists including Francois Leleux, Jonathan Kelly, Alexei Ogrintchouk & Nicholas Daniel. He has also attended masterclasses in Klausen, Italy with Nick Deutsch & David Walter.

Alongside performing Josh has a real passion for chamber music and is currently Artistic Director for the Lasham Music Festival in Hampshire. 

 Ben Jarvis - Trumpet

Ben is in his final year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he studies with Murray Greig. He is currently on trial for the principal trumpet position at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and is an extra with several of the North's professional orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, Halle Orchestra and the orchestra of Opera North.
Ben is a member of the Whitworth Brass Septet, recipients of the Phillip Jones ensemble prize, and is a regular performer with the All Saints Brass Quintet, finalists in the Phillip Jones International Brass Ensemble competition in 2019.
In addition to his orchestral work and ensemble playing, Ben enjoys performing as a soloist. At the age of 14 he was the winner of the Woodard Schools Young Musician of the year, he was the recipient of the Harry Mortimer Solo Award in 2017 and was finalist in the Pendle Young Musician of the Year competition in 2019.
As well as competitions, Ben has had the privilege of performing solo recitals at various overseas locations, including a recital at Trinity Church - Ground Zero in New York, the Johanneskirche in Dusseldorf and the El Saplao caves in Spain.
