Ripon’s renowned St Cecilia Orchestra is much more than just an orchestra.
At its most spectacular it is an exceptionally fine and very large symphony orchestra, often working with top class international soloists and capable of giving high-quality performances
What's on at St. Cecilia
.....via Bartok and Debussy! A bit of a musical journey here. Elgar’s luscious Introduction and Allegro is quite unusual in the string repertoire with its scoring including solo string quartet. Written in 1905 it has all the Britishness you’d expect from Elgar but with hints of the continental flavours of Alassio, which was composed in the previous year. Bartok will keep us on our toes with its scoring for double orchestra – and keep our minds active with the tricky rhythms. I can never find anything too profane in the Debussy – but who knows what Xen will bring to it! And then there is the delightfully entertaining Shchedrin. Who? Come and find out!All News
